Jenna Wilcox is an Osteopath Manual Partitioner (OMP) working at Personal Care Physio and Osteopathy. She has completed the 5-year program at the Canadian College of Osteopathy (CEO) graduating in May 2019. Jenna has received a diploma in osteopathy and manual practice (D.O.M.P); as well as a diploma in science, completing her thesis topic on “Global Osteopathic Treatment in Patients with Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.”
Jenna holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology, and with a minor in Psychology that she received from Memorial University in 2011. She is a certified Pilates mat instructor, trained through both Studio In Essence and the American Sports Association. Jenna is also a certified Kids Yoga Instructor, where she received her training through Grow a Lotus Yoga Pad in Halifax.
Jenna received the “William Garner Sutherland, D.O” thesis award on the quality of the clinical aspect of her thesis. It was a 12-week quantitative randomized clinical trial study. The goals were to determine the effect of global osteopathic treatment on liver
function/health, overall wellbeing and quality of life of a person with NAFLD and readiness to change. There was an overall trend towards significance in improving quality of life in those with fatty liver disease who received osteopathic treatments versus those who did not. There was particularly a significant finding in the reduction of worry/stress in those who received osteopathy. Worry is involved in disrupting the homeostasis within the body, affecting the cardiovascular, immune, the hypothalamus pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis and nervous systems. The study showed how osteopathy had an influence on these systems in a positive manner by reducing the worry/stress component in these patients. Therefore, concluding that osteopathy not only affects the physical being of the person, but has an influence on other systems of the body as well, enlightening the potential use of osteopathy in multiple means.
Jenna has advanced training in the following areas: whiplash, concussions, woman’s health, muscle imbalances, pelvic floor rehab, and children. Jenna is trained in German auricular acupuncture and biofield tuning and believes in continuing with advanced post
education courses to further her practice.
Auricular acupuncture involves the insertion of needles in particular points on the ear that are associated to different parts and/or systems of the body. The ear serves as a precise micro system that is useful to treat pain symptoms, psycho-emotional issues and helps to clear blockages to allow healing to occur. Biofield tuning is a sound approach to healing using tuning forks as tools to treat the human biofield. She believes in a multidisciplinary approach and is determined to provide the upmost care for her patients.
On a personal note, Jenna enjoys an active lifestyle, whether she is hiking and enjoying other outdoor activities, she also has a profound love for dance.
