Haley Flewwelling graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science Degree, combined honors in psychology and biology in 2014, and completed her Masters degree in physiotherapy in 2016. Haley’s goal as a practitioner is to incorporate continued learning and skills, along with a team based approach to provide holistic, quality care.
Haley’s Master’s thesis focused on experiments that investigated the role of imagery in movement rehabilitation after brain injury. This research helps to substantiate the mind-body connection and its potential application in practical treatment. This led to an interest in furthering her knowledge through osteopathy, which embraces the philosophy that the body has an inherent ability to heal itself through the circulation of fluids. Haley is currently completing the 4th year of a 5-year osteopathic degree program. This will allow Haley to work as a physiotherapist, develop her skills, while implementing osteopathic techniques.
Haley has specialized physiotherapy training for many pelvic health conditions. She has advanced training to support women during pre-natal care, labour, delivery and post-natal care which can be done via Telehealth.
Specifically, as a Physiotherapist she has completed: Pelvic Health Solutions (PHS) Pregnancy and Pelvic Girdle Pain course; Prenatal, Labour and Delivery: Maternal support through comfort measures and Pelvic Biomechanics course. These courses taught internal and external manual therapy techniques to help prepare for labour and delivery, and to help restore the pelvic floor after childbirth. They also educated on evidence based exercise, labour positioning, and modalities for C-section scars.
Haley has been previously educated on evidence-based physiotherapy assessment and treatment for: nociceptive and nocioplastic pregnancy related pelvic-girdle pain; diastasis recti; pelvic floor dysfunctions; urinary and fecal incontinence; sexual pain/dysfunction; prolapse; supporting emotional and physical pelvic floor trauma; lifestyle/health promotion and more. She has extensive training with Pelvic Health Solutions (PHS) in restoring pelvic health through physiotherapy.
Haley has a background in sport, as a high-level gymnast, and power cheerleader. Whether she is dancing, singing, or walking on her hands, she always brings a positive energy to every undertaking. Haley is the mother of two beautiful young girls, Ava and Isla. These aspects of her life, along with clinical placements and studies, have focused her interest in holistic care of sports injuries and child development, among others.
